Krishna’s energies

Internal Energy

It is the internal energy of Krishna that is the spiritual world in all its variety, including all his associates. The internal energy is eternal and full of knowledge and happiness(Sat-cid-ananda). The spiritual world makes up most of reality.

External Energy

Everything that is matter- the material world, the laws of material nature, material bodies etc are a part of his external energy. The external energy is temporary and full of ignorance and suffering. It is inert by nature and must be moved by spirit. The material world is a tiny fraction of God’s creation.

Marginal Energy

Us finite spirit souls are expansions of Krishna’s marginal energy. We can choose to live in the spiritual world or the material world.

Both the external energy (matter) and the marginal energy (we souls) can become fully spiritualized by contact with the internal energy through acts of devotion to Krishna (Bhakti yoga).

Let me offer my respectful obeisances unto the Supreme, who in his unlimited, unmanifested form has expanded the cosmic manifestation, the form of the totality of the universe. He possesses external and internal energies and the mixed energy called the marginal potency, which consists of all the living entities. SB 7.3.34

The internal energy is displayed in three types of spiritual modes

1) samvit (“cit” knowledge, Lord Krishna),

2) sandhini (“sat” existence, Lord Balram) and

3) hladini (“Ananda” bliss, Sri Radha).

He is the full manifestation of existence, knowledge, and bliss.

FACT!! Out of the total manifestations of the sandhini energy of the Lord, one fourth is displayed in the material world, and three fourths are displayed in the spiritual world.

Similarly, the external energy (“Maya” Durga-Devi) is also displayed in the three modes of goodness, passion, and ignorance.
